Unit description |
Unit description
This unit includes two modules: an advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy module and an advanced clinical reasoning module addressing complex patient-centred health care in society. In the musculoskeletal module, students will develop advanced manual therapy skills. In the advanced clinical reasoning module, students will develop skills in the assessment and management planning for patients with multisystem or complex problems. In this unit students will build on and integrate material from their clinical placements, the core areas of musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological physiotherapy as well as foundation sciences. Additionally, students will identify their dissertation topic for the final two semesters of the program.

Based on complex cases provided prior to the viva exam, students will be required to describe and justify evidence based assessment and treatment choices at an advanced level
Technology and equipment
Teaching rooms are equipped with state of art audio-visual and ICT equipment including 1 laptop per 2 students, ipads, internet connection, high quality video cameras and multiple LCD screens.
Videos of many of the assessment and treatment skills will be available on the ilearn site.
Assessment/Standards
Details for each assessment task will be available on ilearn.
Marking rubrix for all 3 pieces of assessment will be available on ilearn.
To pass this unit students must complete all assessments and receive a total mark of 50% or more.
Consultation with staff: All staff will be available for individual consultation. See ilearn for contact details and times.
Teaching and Learning strategy: Lectures will provide foundation knowledge and also use large group demonstrations and discussion. Tutorials will focus on developing technical skills and clinical decision making.
