Unit description
Students will analyse discourse features of Auslan texts and be encouraged to consider how Auslan is used in different contexts of situation. Students will develop fundamental language analysis skills needed in interpreting, as well as further Auslan skills development.

Most weeks during semester students will be given discourse analysis tasks related to the topic/s covered. The final online task will be a reflective journal posting.

Students will prepare and present a short Auslan narrative to the class. The narrative will be filmed for later critique by the student.
Due: Block 2
Weighting: 25%
Students will prepare and present a short Auslan lecture to the class. The lecture will be filmed for later critique by the student.
Due: Week 13
Weighting: 30%
Analyse one discourse feature of an Auslan text. Provide a basic literature review (min 5 references), use ELAN to analyse and describe your data.
This unit is delivered in blended mode - via 2 on campus weekend blocks and online interaction.
The Auslan lab is the teaching venue. Other teaching resources include extensive use of ELAN software, a range of presenters and a unit DVD of Auslan texts.
