Unit description
This unit builds on the skills, techniques and knowledge acquired by professional interpreters to competently work in a broad range of institutional settings. The aim of this unit is to provide interpreting students with opportunities to acquire and consolidate advanced interpreting skills in specialized domains, which largely include medicine, law, technology and business, and analyse the complex linguistic, cultural and ethical challenges to be met at each of the domains. They will explore theoretical and practical aspects of the different specialized domains and continue to build on their skills in terminology and glossary development, discourse analysis and domain-specific knowledge with a focus on approaching challenges arising from the specific individual institutional settings and interpreting markets under the guidance of professionals.

Role play simulations will be a key method for classroom learning, involving industry professionals
