Unit description
This is the second of 10 clinical units. Each of the units is focused on a different procedure or condition relevant to the specialty or sub-specialty.
Students will develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of current practice in their specialty or sub-specialty. They will reflect upon their own performance based upon supervisor observations of their practice/clinical procedures. Feedback and recommendation for improvement from supervisors will be incorporated into the completion of a reflective practice portfolio.The portfolio is based on self-reflection, evaluation and continual improvement. Reflections and recommendations for each unit are used to improve clinical practice and each unit will demonstrate the progressive development of clinical skills.

Portfolio to include case reports, reflective practice notes, feedback from supervisors, videos of practice. Portfolio covers practice in clinics, theatres and wards across the patient journey.
For this clinical medical elective unit, you will engage in an intensive, competency-based learning experience in a specialty or sub-specialty of medicine. Learning is tailored to the needs of the individual and therefore pedagogy is interactive and student centred. You will be in a work based environment where you will learn through acquisition of knowledge from clinical experts in the field. This knowledge will be put into practice by carrying out a variety of clinical procedures that will adjust in supervision level as your skill acquisition improves. Engagement will involve collaboration with supervisors and other health professionals (peer learning) to increase your understanding and expertise in safe, quality health care.
