Learning and Teaching Activities The main categories of the course requirements are as follows:- 1. Academic 2. Radiography 3. Professional Conduct 4. Attendance 5. Ongoing Assessments 6. Clinical Assignments 7. Clinical Competency Assessments 8. Clinical Fieldwork Activities and attendance hours (Community Service Hours) 9. Clinic Administrative Duties The assessment tasks for the Clinic Internship units are in accordance with the Learning and Teaching guidelines as recommended by Macquarie University’s 2013 Policy. This policy states that there is no requirement for a normal distribution of grades and it is the quality of the individual student’s performance standards that will determine the grade awarded. The Department of Chiropractic has determined the minimum quotas in accordance with the Council on Chiropractic Education Australasia Inc (CCEA) Standards for First Professional Award Programs in Chiropractic Guidelines (Appendix 1). Performed at least fifty (50) individual, patient clinical assessments, including a comprehensive case history and examination for each patient for the purpose of developing a diagnosis or clinical impression and an appropriate case management regime. Performed at least five (5) examinations of each of the specific systems: cardiovascular, respiratory, genitourinary, digestive, EENT and a minimum of forty (40) appropriate neuro-musculoskeletal examinations. Interpreted and provided written reports on sixty (60) x-ray studies, at least fifteen (15) of which were performed by the student on different patients. Completed and recorded 10 full neurological assessments and 40 part neurological assessments, criteria dependent. Completed and recorded 15 Rehabilitation plans approved by a clinic supervisor Performed at least three hundred (300) chiropractic care sessions, directed toward the alleviation of an identifiable ailment. No more than 20 treatments to be directed towards family members or chiropractic students enrolled at Macquarie University, no more than 20% of treatments to be delivered at placement locations and no more than 10% of treatments to be delivered at fieldwork events. Adequately demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of which clinical laboratory examinations should be undertaken and what should be their interpretive significance to relevant cases. A minimum of 90% attendance at all rostered clinic shifts per semester A minimum of 8 hours attendance at any of the University co-ordinated field work events to be recorded by the end of CHIR897 unit completion. This excludes attendance at a clinic placement location. Interns will maintain their Treatment and Reception shifts until formally given leave to depart in December 2017. Early departure from internship without approval will lead to an incomplete grade for Clinical Internship II. No new patient numbers will be allocated from patients treated at a fieldwork event. No more than 30 patient treatments delivered at a fieldwork event will be counted towards the final 300 patient number requirement. Completed a minimum of 20 hours community service relating to chiropractic involvement. These hours may include attendance and assistance rendered at all Department Chiropractic functions where student participation is requested.
