Unit description Unit description
This is a general education unit which offers a view of Russian cultural life and the cultural contributions made by Russia to the world. The unit is conducted in English and no knowledge of Russian is required. Topics include: literature; theatre and cinema; music; painting; and architecture. The contemporary situation in Russia is presented against the historical background. The unit is based on a seminar discussion format with extensive use of audio-visual materials, including recordings and films. Assessment is based on two quizzes and two essays.

There are no texts to buy for this unit but students are required to read all the texts assigned by the lecturer prior to each class. Most of these will be available via your online unit. It is the student’s responsibility to regularly check the online unit for texts for forthcoming lectures.
