Unit description Unit description
This unit continues the study of Italian grammar and idiom; revises and consolidates work done in ITL102 and ITL103; and develops students' reading skills. Students are required to complete a number of assignments, which they submit by mail, and to submit a final take home examination.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • Reading: understand short, simple texts on familiar matters of a concrete type which consist of high frequency everyday or job-related language; understand short, simple texts containing the highest frequency vocabulary, including a proportion of shared international vocabulary items.
  • Listening: understand enough to be able to meet needs of a concrete type provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated; understand phrases and expressions related to areas of most immediate priority (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment) provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated; identify the main point of TV news items reporting events, accidents etc. where the visual supports the commentary; follow changes of topic of factual TV news items, and form an idea of the main content.

This first task is a coprehension exercise based on a short film


On successful completion you will be able to:

Delivery and Resources

There are no iLectures for this unit. In the Materiale di Aiuto you will find presentations on the only two important structures: the imperative and the conditional.

You work at YOUR own pace; there are deadlines set for all assignments BUT if you need an extension let the tutor in charge know.

You are expected to:

• read carefully through Capitolo 12 e 13 of the textbook;

• complete the exercises: you will find the answers to the textbook exercises in the Materiale di Aiuto folder.

• Open the powerpoint presentations on the Condizionale and the Imperativo from the Materiale di Aiuto folder.

• Download the video Stella for your Assignment  1 (Audio/Video ) from the Materiale di Aiuto folder.

• Download the Ricettario for your Assignment 3 (Esercizio di comprensione) from the Materiale di Aiutofolder or the home page.

• Complete your final test when it becomes available (just before the due date)

• Interact with other students using the Discussion board (this will be your participation mark) - you should post a few messages EACH week.

Late assignment policy

Assignments are compulsory and must be submitted on time. As a general rule, extensions will not be granted without a valid and documented reason (e.g. medical certificate). Late submissions will be penalised by 5% for each day (including weekends) the assignment task is late. No assignments will be accepted after assignments have been corrected and feedback has been provided. Assignment tasks handed in early will not be marked and returned before the due date.
