Unit description
This unit comprises 250 hours of appropriate work under the supervision of a qualified field supervisor. At this stage students will still be developing their knowledge of relevant clinical conditions, and the advantages and disadvantages of particular assessment procedures. However, they should have the ability to seek the relevant knowledge, if this is not already available, and to begin to generate hypotheses about what to expect. The ability to interpret the test results in terms of neuropsychological functioning is expected. Report writing skills should be refined, initially with close supervision, but gradually developing more independence.

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

General Assessment Information
Please refer to the Field Placement Manual for further information. Adherence to the Field Placement Manual is a requirement of the Placement. The Field Placement Manual is a live document that may be updated in line with regulatory or university changes at anytime.
First placement must have been satisfactorily passed before commencing second placement.

Weekly Supervision

Weighting: 30%
This is a hurdle assessment task (see assessment policy for more information on hurdle assessment tasks)
Case Management under close supervision; formative formulation and testing skills; professional conduct; self-reflection; ethics and communication including report writing and log book. At the end of placement, a declaration form confirming hours is also required.
On successful completion you will be able to:

Mid Placement Review
Due: After 5 cases completed
Weighting: 30%
This is a hurdle assessment task (see assessment policy for more information on hurdle assessment tasks)
This is a hurdle assessment. This is a mid-placement assessment of competency, conducted In the placement setting with the supervisor using an online tool. . An average score of at least 4 in at least 3 overall skill domains (i.e. assessment skills, clinical skills, report writing and professional skills) is required to pass. A score below this will result in the unit being failed.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply neuropsychological knowledge and scholarly understanding to determine client needs and design and implement evidence based interventions
- Communicate effectively across a wide range of client groups, colleagues and other professionals, using a variety of formats to function empathically within and across cultures and life stages
- Demonstrate knowledge of the legislative frameworks relevant to clinical neuropsychologists and undertake practice according to professional standards and the Psychology Board of Australia's code of ethics
- Demonstrate the entry level capabilities required of practising clinical neuropsychologists, with the professional and personal skills for assessing continuous development needs.
End of Placement Review
Due: End of Placement
Weighting: 30%
This is a hurdle assessment task (see assessment policy for more information on hurdle assessment tasks)
This is a hurdle assessment. The end of placement review is conducted using an online tool. An average score of at least 5 in at least 3 of 4 overall skill domains (i.e. assessment skills, clinical skills, report writing and professional skills) is required to pass the placement. A score below this will result in the unit being failed.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Apply neuropsychological knowledge and scholarly understanding to determine client needs and design and implement evidence based interventions
- Communicate effectively across a wide range of client groups, colleagues and other professionals, using a variety of formats to function empathically within and across cultures and life stages

Case Log Book
Due: End of placement
Weighting: 10%
This is a hurdle assessment task (see assessment policy for more information on hurdle assessment tasks)
This is a hurdle assessment. At the completion of 12-14 cases, these must be compiled into a log book and presented to the Placement Coordinator. Over the four placements a total of 50 cases will be provided.
On successful completion you will be able to:

- Communicate effectively across a wide range of client groups, colleagues and other professionals, using a variety of formats to function empathically within and across cultures and life stages
- Demonstrate knowledge of the legislative frameworks relevant to clinical neuropsychologists and undertake practice according to professional standards and the Psychology Board of Australia's code of ethics
- Demonstrate the entry level capabilities required of practising clinical neuropsychologists, with the professional and personal skills for assessing continuous development needs.
Delivery and Resources
Attendance at the field placement for two days minimum over 12 weeks on average for placement completion.
Need to have completed NSW Health training modules.
As a professional public facing environment , the field placement requires Professional attire, and provide your own stationery
As a regulated Health Profession, Psychology placements require Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, a National Criminal Record Check, Working with Children Check and Health Verification be conducted prior to placement commencement and maintained across all placements.
Unit Schedule
Attendance at a field placement will require at least 2 days per week availability over a 12 week period on average determined by Supervisor availability.
