Unit description
The principal aim of this unit is to extend grammatical knowledge and vocabulary, so that students can express themselves on practical subjects to a patient native speaker with relative ease and without recourse to English. A student-centred approach to teaching allows students to develop their oral and written skills through various class presentations. Students completing this unit will have a firm basis on which to develop their command of the language.

No on- Campus sessions, however students must attend an examination in Australia.
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

On-going weekly homework: students are required to engage in small and medium length paragraph writing involving a variety of everyday situations; they will be asked to develop their communication skills in order to interact with Greek-speaking people at the elementary level; finally, their reading comprehension is supposed to be enhanced and elaborated to make it possible for them to understand diverse speech contexts.

Weighting: 30%
Students are going to be tested as to their ability to write, and comprehend everyday Greek vocabulary in a variety of situations; emphasis will be on specific and fixed formulas of speech.
Due: Week 13
Weighting: 15%
Oral test: students are asked to reply on set questions regarding diverse situations as prsented in their handbooks.
Due: Exam Period
Weighting: 40%
End of Semester Examination: this is the final assessment of all grammatical knowledge and comprehension skills regarding the various topic of Greek delineated during the semester.

Technology
Students are required to have regular access to a computer and the internet. Mobile devices alone are not sufficient.
For students attending classes on campus we strongly encourage that you bring along your own laptop computer, ready to work with activities in your online unit. The preferred operating system is Windows 10.
Students are required to access the online unit in iLearn by the end of Week 1 and follow any relevant instructions and links for downloads that may be required. If applicable, students are required to download the relevant language package prior to Week 2.
Please contact your course convenor before the end of Week 1 if you do not have a suitable laptop (or tablet) for in-class use.
