Unit description	Unit description This unit on advanced topics in computing is geared towards students enrolled in Bachelor of Advanced IT. Students participate in a semester-long research project under the guidance of a mentor from the Department of Computing.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

ULO2: Demonstrate knowledge of a range of research skills in advanced topics in computing research.
ULO3: Discuss advanced concepts with computing science researchers.
ULO4: Critically read and synthesise information from scholarly articles in the computing discipline.
ULO5: Communicate research results and methods in various ways and to diverse audiences (both in written and oral form).
ULO6: Explain how technology/computing research can contribute to the wider discipline and address problems in society.

General Assessment Information

Late Submission: No extensions will be granted without an approved application for Special Consideration. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part thereof that the submission is late. For example, 25 hours late in submission for an assignment worth 10 marks – 20% penalty or 2 marks deducted from the total. No submission will be accepted after solutions have been posted.

Grading: Students should pay particular attention to the unit's learning outcomes as these will be the criteria against which their work is assessed.

There are no scheduled classes for this course. The student will meet weekly with a supervisor/mentor and will meet periodically with the unit convener. The student is also expected to attend research group meetings related to their project.

Results published on platform other than eStudent, (eg. iLearn, Coursera etc.) or released directly by your Unit Convenor, are not confirmed as they are subject to final approval by the University.
