It is the responsibility of students to view their marks for each within session assessment on iLearn within 20 working days of posting. If there are any discrepancies, students must contact the unit convenor immediately. Failure to do so will mean that queries received after the release of final results regarding assessment marks (not including the final exam mark) will not be addressed.

Special Consideration

Where a Special Consideration application is approved, the student may be offered an alternative assessment or may receive a mark based on the percentage mark achieved by the student in one or more other assessment tasks, at the Unit Convenor’s discretion.

Late Penalties

Tasks 10% or less – No extensions will be granted. Students who have not submitted the task prior to the deadline will be awarded a mark of 0 for the task, except for cases in which an application for special consideration is made and approved.

Tasks above 10% - No extensions will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part thereof that the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission – 20% penalty). This penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for special consideration is made and approved. No submission will be accepted after solutions have been posted.

Croucher, John. S. (2018). Quantitative Analysis for Management, 6th edition. McGraw-Hill Education. ISBN: 9781760425029. You should bring this textbook to all lectures as it is also a workbook. Please note: Students should only attain the 6th edition of this textbook, which is the only edition this class will be taught from. Furthermore, this course relies heavily on the learning material provided in the textbook (which also acts as an exercise book for in-class demonstration and activities). It is highly advised that students attain the required textbook as soon as possible and familiarise themselves with the textbook material, especially before the start of each class session for sessions with specific allocated chapters

Access to Technology: Access to a personal computer and internet connection is required to access learning material/resources online on Macquarie University's online learning management system called iLearn. Students will also be required to gain access to statistical software called Minitab 16. While the text refers to Minitab 16, version 17 & 18 may be used. Further instructions are provided in the class iLearn page. You should also have access to Microsoft Excel.

Calculators & calculations: You should either buy a calculator for use in the course for the tutorial exercises, online quizzes, mid term and final exam OR use excel on your laptop for this purpose. If you buy a calculator you should make sure you have the manual for it and become adept at using it. Your calculator should have keys for n! (factorial n), nCr (n choose r) and exp(x) (the exponential of x). We will not be instructing students in how to use their calculators. A calculator should have function keys for computing the mean and standard deviation of a sample. Some calculators have function keys for linear regression and correlation and these are better than those with only mean and standard deviation. However we do plan to let students use excel during the mid term and final exams so this may be preferable to buying a calculator.
