Unit description
How do we plan for sustainability in our cities and regions and how can current planning practice facilitate future sustainability? In this unit students will develop an advanced understanding of the social, economic and environmental challenges and opportunities associated with fostering sustainability in cities and urban regions. The unit will explore key processes that facilitate and support sustainability, and their implications for planning. Through engagement with current theory and practice, students will develop and apply skills in planning for sustainability in cities and urban regions. |

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 40 hours

Students will critically evaluate an existing municipal sustainability plan using the knowledge they have gained from the course. Students will draw on a range of qualitative and quantitative data and academic literature to produce a 2000 word report.

Due: 9pm, Friday 16th October 2020
Weighting: 30%
Students will produce a 1800 word project management plan for the completion of a sustainability plan.

Indicative Time on Task 2: 26 hours
Due: 9pm 6th November 2020
Weighting: 30%
Students will be asked to complete a range of weekly tasks throughout the semester. Six of these tasks will be compiled into a 1800 word online log book that will be submitted and assessed at the end of semester.
