Unit description
This is a shell unit designed to engage students with current research in Human Sciences by the completion of units of study at 8000-level that are not represented in the program of available 7000-level units. This unit forms part of the in-depth coursework provided in the first year of the MRes program. The candidate will acquire advanced disciplinary conceptual understanding as well as an awareness of how research is carried out in that disciplinary area. There will be an emphasis on both an understanding of advanced concepts as well as their application in research and/or professional environments.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Acquire a coherent and advanced knowledge of the principles and concepts within the discipline area chosen for this unit.
- ULO2: Think critically and make informed and logical judgments of the arguments of others to arrive at reasoned and meaningful arguments and positions, and formulate and apply ideas to new contexts.
- ULO3: Explain the various processes and methodologies that are integral to advanced research in the discipline area under investigation
- ULO4: Demonstrate the ability to apply accumulated knowledge and skills to make decisions in the context of professional practice and/or scholarship
- ULO5: Develop a high level of oral, written, and technical communication skills, with specialisation for the specific needs of the discipline area.
