Unit description
This unit explores the history of Chinese art. Topics covered will include the major concepts and theories of Chinese art and related schools of philosophy. Students will be introduced to a broad range of artistic, academic and theoretical sources as well as instructed in the traditional practice of painting. By learning and applying the theories of Chinese art students will critically analyze artistic, academic and theoretical sources and will thus enhance their understanding of Chinese art, its philosophical and theoretical foundations, as well as its cultural significance and social relevance. |

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Demonstrate enhanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the practice and history of Chinese art.
- ULO2: Examine and critically evaluate key disciplinary concepts, theories and works that underpin the development of Chinese art.
- ULO3: Develop topic-specific research and critical thinking skills on various topics on Chinese art and relevant schools of philosophy.
- ULO4: Explain and justify opinions on aesthetic and historical issues in Chinese art by identifying, examining and evaluating information from sources such as historical analysis and commentaries.
- ULO5: Critically express and analyse issues in Chinese art and Chinese history through clear, well-structured writing.

General Assessment Information
Late Assessment Penalty
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

Students are required to have regular access to a computer and the internet. Mobile devices alone are not sufficient.
For students attending classes on campus we strongly encourage that you bring along your own laptop computer, ready to work with activities in your online unit. The preferred operating system is Windows 10.
Students are required to access the online unit in iLearn by the end of Week 1 and follow any relevant instructions and links for downloads that may be required. If applicable, students are required to download the relevant language package prior to Week 2.
