Unit description
This unit provides an introduction to a range of topics in mathematics which do not form part of the traditional undergraduate curriculum, and is designed to prepare students to engage with mathematical research literature and areas of current research interest.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Engage with the mathematical research literature in a mathematical topic chosen for its current research interest.
- ULO2: Apply principles, concepts and techniques learned in the unit to constructlogical and mathematically justified solutions to practical and abstractproblems.
- ULO3: Clearly communicate mathematical problems and their solutions in writtenform.
- ULO4: Interpret information communicated in mathematical language and symbols.
- ULO5: Adhere to the required standards of ethics in applying mathematical techniquesto problem solving and appropriately acknowledging sources.
