Unit description Unit description

In this unit, you will pursue a course of collaborative enquiry-based learning with a supervisor by conducting a literature review. The literature review topics may be in the field of anatomy, surgery, radiology, ethics, history of medicine, medical education, medical devices and safety issues in clinical practice. This unit will develop your understanding of the different approaches to data collection and data analysis. You will produce a research paper, publishable in a peer reviewed journal, with emphasis on how to best construct data analysis, write scientifically and promote ethical research practices.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Plan and produce a medical research project, in collaboration with a supervisor.
  • ULO2: Critically evaluate existing literature and theoretical knowledge in health context.
  • ULO3: Independently write scientific material incorporating feedback received throughout the course.
  • ULO4: Prepare and deliver an oral presentation on the results of a research project.
  • ULO5: Demonstrate an understanding and adherence to the ethical and regulatory requirements relevant to the research project.

General Assessment Information

To pass this unit, students must demonstrate sufficient evidence of achievement of the learning outcomes, attempt all assessment tasks, meet any ungraded requirements including professionalism and achieve an SNG of 50 or better.

Late Submission

All assignments which are officially received after the due date, and where no extension has been granted, will incur a deduction of 5% for the first day, and 5% for each subsequent day including the actual day on which the work is received up until 10 days after the due date, after which the assignment will not be accepted.. Weekends and public holidays are included. For example:

This unit will commence at the beginning of the Graduate Diploma of Anatomy and will be carried out over two Sessions. Please liaise with your clinical supervisor about your one-to-one research supervision. Technological requirements for your research will be identified by your supervisor. You may also connect with the faculty librarians to assist you in your project.
