Unit description
This unit examines the impacts of new technologies on media practices, industries and economies. Key media forms are contextualised within histories of transformation and continuity, and current issues affecting production and distribution are explored. |

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: perform sophisticated critical analysis of creative media works.
- ULO2: demonstrate advanced theoretical knowledge and understanding specific to the discipline of media arts and media practice.
- ULO4: analyse and evaluate creative media practice within a broader theoretical and environmental framework.
- ULO3: communicate knowledge and critical expertise to professional audiences individually and as part of a group.
- ULO5: synthesize theoretical and creative approaches to contemporary issues in media practice.

General Assessment Information
All written assessments (Progress Journal and written component of Industry Pitch) must be submitted via the designated Turnitin links which will be made available on iLearn.
Special Consideration: If you have experienced an unavoidable and serious disruption and are unable to complete this task by the due date, please email your unit convenor and request Special Consideration via ask.mq.edu.au.
Late Penalty: Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

Teaching for this unit starts in Week 2
All required reading and additional resources will be accessible via the Leganto system on iLearn. Students are required to complete weekly preparatory tasks and readings.
There will not be a class in week 7 as this is a public holiday. There will be an additional week of teaching to make up for this.
This unit entails a timetabled trip to the Powerhouse Museum.
