Unit description Unit description

This unit is available to eligible visiting medical and health students seeking a placement within MQ Health (Macquarie University Hospital and Macquarie University Clinics).
A visiting student is defined as a student who is currently enrolled in a medical or health program at another higher education institution (locally or globally), who is seeking to complete a clinical placement within MQ Health. This unit is only available to students who have successfully completed clinical placements within their program, and are usually in their penultimate or final year of study.
Students will be expected to gather evidence of their learning, reflect on their experiences and generate development plans to enhance their future professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Reflect on the application of your knowledge of relevant medical and health sciences, health conditions and the differences in health systems compared with your home country.
  • ULO2: Analyse your ability to build rapport, communicate sensitively, demonstrate cultural responsiveness and practice effectively in clinical settings with patients, their families and/or carers, and with medical and healthcare professionals.
  • ULO3: Discuss the communication of history and physical examination findings, differential diagnoses and management plans to interprofessional healthcare teams and/or peers.
  • ULO4: Use feedback from clinicians and patients to inform self-evaluation and critical reflection.
