Unit description Unit description

This unit explores the concepts of sustainable value creation from a variety of perspectives. Supply chains across functional and organisational boundaries and the contribution of logistics to strategy implementation will be examined. Additionally, students will be given the tools to analyse and assess the degree to which costs and benefits are balanced to determine the sustainability of value creation.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Analyse and explain the fundamental concepts and principles of supply chain management.
  • ULO2: Apply a range of quantitative techniques for effective supply chain performance analysis.
  • ULO3: Appraise the impact of e-commerce and other emerging initiatives in the field of supply chain management, both as an individual and as a part of a group.

General Assessment Information

Late Assessments must also be submitted through the relevant submission link on iLearn. No extensions will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part thereof that the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission incurs a 20% penalty). Late submissions will be accepted up to 96 hours after the due date and time.

This penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for SpeciaConsideratiois made and approved. Note: applications for SpeciaConsideratioPolicmust be made within 5 (five) business days of the due date and time.

Group Report and Individual presentation

Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 30 hours
Due: Week 4~Week 13
Weighting: 40%

 

Students will select a supply chain topic. You will work in groups to prepare a business report of up to 5,000 words. Students will then present individually for 5 minutes each on a section of their report's findings. Note that students will continue to be a part of the same group, but the mark for the oral presentation will be entirely individual.

  • Apply a range of quantitative techniques for effective supply chain performance analysis.
  • Appraise the impact of e-commerce and other emerging initiatives in the field of supply chain management, both as an individual and as a part of a group.

Online Mid Term Test

Indicative Time on Task 2: 25 hours
Due: Week 7
Weighting: 50%

 

A 2 hour quiz administered via iLearn. Will examine materials studied throughout the unit.

Students will read selected articles and case studies and come prepared to analyse and discuss online.
