Unit description
This unit examines the key issues currently facing all service and manufacturing organisations creating products across global markets. The primary aim of the unit is to illustrate the impact globalisation has on the value transformation process both within the organisation and across its value chain. The unit analyses in detail the link between globalisation and an organisation's competitive strategy, the management of its operations, the design of its products and processes, and the management of its supply chains, inventory and logistics. |

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
- ULO2: Evaluate the value creation process in the context of sustainability considerations for the firm
- ULO3: Design and critique solutions to a real-world case.
General Assessment Information
Late Assessments must also be submitted through the relevant submission link on iLearn. No extensions will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part thereof that the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission incurs a 20% penalty). Late submissions will be accepted up to 96 hours after the due date and time.
This penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for Special Consideration is made and approved. Note: applications for Special Consideration Policy must be made within 5 (five) business days of the due date and time.

Individual Essay
Assessment Type 1: Essay
Indicative Time on Task 2: 20 hours
Due: Week 7
Weighting: 30%
For this individual assignment each student will need to prepare an essay on an allocated topic. Students should research relevant information and analyse key issues with reference to concepts and frameworks introduced in this unit. Submission will be of up to 1,500 words.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
Case study
Assessment Type 1: Case study/analysis
Indicative Time on Task 2: 25 hours
Due: Week 13
Weighting: 40%
For this individual assignment each student will analyse a case study on an allocated topic. Students should research information relevant to the topic and critique key issues with reference to concepts and frameworks introduced in this unit. Submission will be of up to 2,000 words.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
- Evaluate the value creation process in the context of sustainability considerations for the firm
Group Report
Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 20 hours
Due: Week 10
Weighting: 30%
This assessment will require students to work in groups of 3-4 to submit a 3,000 word report. The group report will be assessed with 15% allocated to the report as a whole, assessed for coherence, structure, and consistency; and 15% for each student’s individual contribution, assessed for analysis, logic, and integration, as indicated in the report.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
- Design and critique solutions to a real-world case.
