Unit description
This unit investigates the topic of national identity in Italy. A variety of written and audio-visual materials provide students with an overview of core values and key historical events that have shaped modern Italy, such as the unification, Italy's role in WWII and the 'economic miracle', and the turmoils that led to what is commonly considered the end of the First Republic and the beginning of the New Republic under the Berlusconi government. Other aspects to be investigated include geography, historical eras, market forces, business, latest developments and the European Community. |

External students must send answers to the weekly questions to the unit coordinator BEFORE the end of the on-campus class. These constitute part of their participation mark.

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.
