Unit description Unit description

The aim of this unit is to provide students with opportunities to practice interpreting skills in linguistically sophisticated and potentially challenging arenas at the highest level of interpreting studies. This unit consists of practical as well as research components. It provides students with opportunities to practice interpreting in a wide range of topic areas in the form of longer consecutive as well as simultaneous interpreting. Also included in the unit is research component, in which students are expected to apply theoretical knowledge to the critical analysis of their interpreting skills and decisions, while defining appropriate interpreting strategies. Through generic lectures and language-specific tutorials, students are required to achieve advanced interpreting skills, develop research techniques and communicate in critical and reflexive ways.

Delivery and Resources

Under COVID-19, TRAN8082 will be offered both online and offline. The mode of delivery depends on the location of students enrolled in respective language streams. As most Korean students are currently based in Korea, the Korean class will be taught online via Zoom. The Chinese and Japanese streams will attend on-campus tutorials, because most students are based in Sydney. All lectures will be made available via recording for external students.
