Unit description Unit description

This unit gives students an opportunity to apply their learning through work with a partner in either Sydney, regional Australia or internationally. The unit develops students' professional ethics, ability to address complex issues, and practical, analytical and interpretative skills in ways directly relevant to their future employment. This unit allows students to draw on previous learning to strengthen their portfolio of demonstrated skills relevant to the wide range of employment destinations available to human geographers and other social scientists. The unit is required for students enrolled in the Human Geography, Geography, Urban Studies, Environment, Society and Law and Refugee Studies majors in the BA and for students enrolled in the Geography Studies and Human Geography Studies Specialisations in the BSc. It is also suitable for students enrolled in the Global Health, Anthropology, Sociology and Indigenous Studies majors in the BA. Students wishing to enrol in this unit should lodge an online enquiry via ask.mq.edu.au to request further information prior to submission of a waiver application.

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

General Assessment Information

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

This unit consists of 3x 2-hour workshops (in weeks 1, 2 and 13) plus your internship/placement/research experience and attendant assessment tasks.
