Session 2 Learning and Teaching Update
The decision has been made to conduct study online for the remainder of Session 2 for all units WITHOUT mandatory on-campus learning activities. Exams for Session 2 will also be online where possible to do so.
This is due to the extension of the lockdown orders and to provide certainty around arrangements for the remainder of Session 2. We hope to return to campus beyond Session 2 as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Some classes/teaching activities cannot be moved online and must be taught on campus. You should already know if you are in one of these classes/teaching activities and your unit convenor will provide you with more information via iLearn. If you want to confirm, see the list of units with mandatory on-campus classes/teaching activities.
Visit the MQ COVID-19 information page for more detail.

Unit description
This unit focus on developing skill in the production of short-form fiction, including short story and micro/flash fiction. Students investigate short story structures through close reading of exemplary texts, critical analysis, and writing exercises. A range of narrative techniques key to narrative fiction are explored and applied to students’ own work. Students engage in close reading and analysis of published stories. At the outcome of the unit, students will have read and analysed a range of short-form fictions and have written a short story or series of linked micro fictions for their major work. |
Information about important academic dates including deadlines for withdrawing from units are available at https://www.mq.edu.au/study/calendar-of-dates

Lectures
Lectures begin in Week 1. Live Zoom lectures will take place on Mondays 11am. Please consult the ENGL/ENGX3007 iLearn site to access the Zoom lecture link. These lectures will be recorded and made available to students through Echo360 on the ENGL/ENGX3007 iLearn site.
Listening to the lectures is expected before participating in the weekly tutorial. Missing lectures will reduce your opportunities for learning and probably result in poor marks across the unit.
Tutorials
Depending on your mode of enrolment, internal students in ENGL3007 must participate in the weekly on-campus tutorials or via Zoom. For internal students enrolled in the Special Circumstance mode, please access the weekly Zoom tutorial links via the ENGL3007 iLearn site.
External/OUA students enrolled in ENGX3007 will participate in the weekly tutorials via the iLearn Discussion Forums beginning in week 1.
Readings
