In this unit you will explore the tensions between multilingual practices and monolingual ideologies, and their social consequences. You will discover that linguistic diversity is a fundamental, yet widely overlooked, fact of language in social life. You will engage with a wide variety of case studies of language and culture contact from around the world and examine connections to educational disadvantage and social exclusion.

Requesting an extension to assignment due date
Assignments are due at regular intervals throughout the semester and it is therefore not possible to receive extensions. Missing a small number of assignments is unlikely not jeopardize your successful completion of the unit. If you find you cannot keep up, due to special circumstances, you may ask to be allowed to do one or more replacement tasks instead. Replacement tasks are only given in special circumstances, by completing a Special Consideration request. Late submission of assignments
As assignments are due at regular intervals throughout the semester, late submission is not possible.

You will have to undertake 10 writing tasks throughout the term in response to prompts. Each task will be valued 3%.
You will have to undertake a group assignment and present their findings in a variety of oral and digital formats.
You will have to undertake 10 quizzes throughout the term. Each quiz will be valued 5%.
