Session 2 Learning and Teaching Update
The decision has been made to conduct study online for the remainder of Session 2 for all units WITHOUT mandatory on-campus learning activities. Exams for Session 2 will also be online where possible to do so.
This is due to the extension of the lockdown orders and to provide certainty around arrangements for the remainder of Session 2. We hope to return to campus beyond Session 2 as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Some classes/teaching activities cannot be moved online and must be taught on campus. You should already know if you are in one of these classes/teaching activities and your unit convenor will provide you with more information via iLearn. If you want to confirm, see the list of units with mandatory on-campus classes/teaching activities.

Unit description
This unit aims to equip students with an understanding of hearing aid systems and the principles of hearing aid measurement. It aims to familiarise students with the diverse range of hearing aids that are available and to provide students with skills to determine appropriate hearing aid selection on the basis of client need. Practise in impression taking, hearing aid measurement, hearing aid verification and electronic and acoustic adjustment of hearing aids will be provided.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Integrate information from a variety of sources to recognise suitable candidates (of all ages) for hearing device fitting and factors affecting outcomes
- ULO2: Integrate knowledge of technological features in selection and adjustment of hearing aids and acoustic coupling options with case information
- ULO3: Demonstrate an understanding of prescriptive methods and non-prescriptive methods for setting electroacoustic properties of hearing aids
- ULO4: Understand the processes, steps and reasoning for hearing aid fitting and verification using real ear insertion gain measurements, aided threshold testing, aided speech testing, and client subjective comments
- ULO5: Critically evaluate device advertising and specifications to obtain information on feature
- ULO6: Recognise non-audiological factors that may influence use/acceptance of rehabilitation, and the role of counselling in achieving appropriate rehabilitative outcomes for the client and their family
General Assessment Information
Requesting an extension to assignment due date
On occasion, you may be in a situation when you aren't able to submit an assessment task on time. Extensions are only given in special circumstances, by completing a Special Consideration request. Late submission of assignments
If you haven't been approved for an extension and you submit your assessment task late, penalties are applied. You should consult your unit convenor if you are in this position. Late submissions will receive a 5% per day penalty. If you submit the assessment task 10 days or more beyond the due date, without an approved extension, you will be awarded a maximum of 50% of the overall assessment marks. Weekends and public holidays are included.
