Session 2 Learning and Teaching Update
The decision has been made to conduct study online for the remainder of Session 2 for all units WITHOUT mandatory on-campus learning activities. Exams for Session 2 will also be online where possible to do so.
This is due to the extension of the lockdown orders and to provide certainty around arrangements for the remainder of Session 2. We hope to return to campus beyond Session 2 as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Some classes/teaching activities cannot be moved online and must be taught on campus. You should already know if you are in one of these classes/teaching activities and your unit convenor will provide you with more information via iLearn. If you want to confirm, see the list of units with mandatory on-campus classes/teaching activities.

Unit description
This introductory Russian unit is designed for students with basic knowledge of Russian, equivalent to one semester of studying the language at university level. The objective of the unit is to expand students' vocabulary and to teach new Russian grammatical structures that will help them to communicate in everyday situations in Russian-speaking contexts. Students will develop their listening and speaking skills, as well as reading and writing skills, through varied activities and tasks.

All assessment tasks are compulsory and must be submitted on time. Assignment tasks handed in early will not be marked and returned before the due date.
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – 10 marks out of 100 credit will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted seven days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline.

For the oral test, students have to prepare a three-minute talk on a topic of their choice. Students will be assessed on their presentation, as well as their ability to answer follow-up questions. This will be a part of regular seminar time. Online students will do this task via Zoom.

The purpose of the test is to check students’ knowledge of all aspects of grammar and vocabulary that they learned throughout the semester. Online version available to external students.

Technology
Students are required to have regular access to a computer and the internet. Mobile devices alone are not sufficient. The preferred operating system is Windows 10.
Students are required to access the online unit in iLearn by the end of Week 1 and follow any relevant instructions and links for downloads that may be required.
