Session 2 Learning and Teaching Update

The decision has been made to conduct study online for the remainder of Session 2 for all units WITHOUT mandatory on-campus learning activities. Exams for Session 2 will also be online where possible to do so.

This is due to the extension of the lockdown orders and to provide certainty around arrangements for the remainder of Session 2. We hope to return to campus beyond Session 2 as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Some classes/teaching activities cannot be moved online and must be taught on campus. You should already know if you are in one of these classes/teaching activities and your unit convenor will provide you with more information via iLearn. If you want to confirm, see the list of units with mandatory on-campus classes/teaching activities.

Unit description Unit description

This unit provides students with fundamental introductory knowledge and understanding of an ancient language relevant to their field of interest, with attention to vocabulary, grammar, and reading skills. Students will undertake language studies in an ancient language relevant to their research interests.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Recognise and recall the script and phonetic structure of the ancient language.
  • ULO2: Identify and recall the grammatical structures of the ancient language at the appropriate level.
  • ULO3: Recognise and memorize the vocabulary of the ancient language at the appropriate level.
  • ULO4: Assess the grammar required for the translation of the texts in the ancient language at the appropriate level.
  • ULO5: Integrate the knowledge of the grammar and vocabulary in reading and/or writing texts in the ancient language at the appropriate level.
  • ULO6: Explore the significance of the ancient language for the study of relevant ancient cultures.

General Assessment Information

Late Assessment Penalty

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a penalty for lateness will apply – ten (10) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes, online tests.

Grading decisions for each assessment task will be moderated against the set criteria and standards before task results are released.

Dear students

Please check iLearn for more details. This unit is so-called 'shell' unit, which means that you need to attend some other teaching unit in order to pass this one - that is the reason why it is not listed on a student timetable. There is no need to actually enroll in these units through eStudent, just to get approval from the convenor.  As 'filling' for this unit you should do one of AHIS ancient languages undergraduate units. Please contact course-convenor of the language unit of your choice to determine what level would be the most suitable for you, taking into account your existing knowledge of the language. Also, please contact course-convenor of Graduate certificate (Dr Danijel Džino) to let him know your choice. List of units and course convenors could be accessed through this link:
