Unit description Unit description

This unit examines the key issues currently facing all service and manufacturing organisations creating products across global markets. The primary aim of the unit is to illustrate the impact globalisation has on the value transformation process both within the organisation and across its value chain. The unit analyses in detail the link between globalisation and an organisation's competitive strategy, the management of its operations, the design of its products and processes, and the management of its supply chains, inventory and logistics.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
  • ULO2: Evaluate the value creation process in the context of sustainability considerations for the firm
  • ULO3: Design and critique solutions to a real-world case.

General Assessment Information

Late Assessments must also be submitted through the relevant submission link on iLearn. No extensions will be granted. There will be a deduction of 10% of the total available marks made from the total awarded mark for each 24 hour period or part thereof that the submission is late (for example, 25 hours late in submission incurs a 20% penalty). Late submissions will not be accepted after solutions have been discussed and/or made available.

This penalty does not apply for cases in which an application for SpeciaConsideratiois made and approved. Note: applications for SpeciaConsideratioPolicmust be made within 5 (five) business days of the due date and time.

This assessment is worth 30% in total. It is a 1,500 word individual essay.

Group Report

Assessment Type 1: Report

Weighting: 30%

 

This assessment is worth 30% in total (15% allocated to group performance and 15% allocated to individual contribution and performance). It is a 3,000 word group report.

 


On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
  • Design and critique solutions to a real-world case.

Case study

Due: Week 13
Weighting: 40%

 

This assessment is worth 40% in total. It is a 2000 word individual case study.

  • Identify, describe and analyse the concept of globalisation.
  • Evaluate the value creation process in the context of sustainability considerations for the firm

Students are required to have access to a personal computer and familiarise themselves with iLearn (https://ile arn.mq.edu.au/login/).

iLearn will be used to post lecture slides, assessment details, student grades and as a means of communication between staff members and students.

Students are also required to have internet access in order to join online Zoom lectures

Many of the issues covered in this unit can be found in Journals, newspapers, and business periodicals such as Asia Wall Street Journal, Far East Economic Review, Australian Financial Review, Business Review Weekly, Sydney Morning Herald, etc. Students are expected to read these on a regular basis. Students can access this from the university library.
