Unit description
This unit examines enduring and/or topical issues and themes in International Relations, relating them to a single assessment component, for which students can choose their own topic. Some weeks will focus practically on aspects of the assessment component, a 6000-8000 word paper, composed in the form of a refereed journal article |

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
- ULO1: Understand international relations - students should have a broad and nuanced understanding of the (sub-) discipline of International Relations, as content and as a field of study
- ULO2: Make sense of literature, discover journals, detect and comprehend approaches and arguments in relevant scholarly literature, land learn about positioning in the field
- ULO3: Engage with the craft of scholarship - choose a topic, decide an approach or method, organize and compose an article
- ULO4: Produce and submit a completed academic journal article - enhanced knowledge and understanding of academic practice in the discipline of International Relations
General Assessment Information
Late Submission Penalty
“Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, (a) a penalty for lateness will apply – two (2) marks out of 100 will be deducted per day for assignments submitted after the due date – and (b) no assignment will be accepted more than seven (7) days (incl. weekends) after the original submission deadline. No late submissions will be accepted for timed assessments – e.g. quizzes and the take-home exam unless prior arrangements have been made via email with the unit convenor.”
