Late Assessment Submission Penalty

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark of the task) will be applied for each day a written report or presentation assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. The submission time for all uploaded assessments is 11:55 pm. For late submission of the time-sensitive task in this unit, the grant pitch, please apply for Special Consideration

Submit assessments via the turnitin upload links in the Assessment box of the unit's iLearn page. For the annotated bibliography, email the annotated bibliography or a link to it to the convener and also upload some output file as a dummy file, so that a grade can be entered in iLearn.

Another explanation of the University-wide policy lateness policy

Due time is 23:55 on the due date.

The new University-wide late penalties run as follows:

0-1 h late: grace period, no penalties

more than 24 h late: 5% more deducted off the total marks that the assignment for each 24-h period or part thereof

more than 7 days late: 100% deducted, meaning that the submitter gets 0

Special Consideration

The Special Consideration Policy aims to support students who have been impacted by short-term circumstances or events that are serious, unavoidable and significantly disruptive, and which may affect their performance in assessment. If you experience circumstances or events that affect your ability to complete the assessments in this unit on time, please inform the convenor and submit a Special Consideration request through ask.mq.edu.au.

Marking and rubrics

Rubrics for the ethics assignment, the News & Views assignment, and the grant proposal are on iLearn (all in one file). Instructions for all assignments are on iLearn. We aim for a two-week turn-around time, but this is not always achievable with the rigours of the moderation process, in which two indpendent graders grade major assessments.

Delivery and Resources

This year, we meet weekly through the semester on Tuesdays 10-12 at

14 Sir Christopher Ondaatje Ave. room 100 theatrette

Note that we have no class in Week 8 because the scheduled class falls on ANZAC Day.

We will meet live, in person, with a zoom simulcast. Zoom link on the unit's iLearn page in the box on Unit Information.

If you are not feeling well, by your own responsible judgement, then do not come to class. Join on zoom instead. When wearing a mask, choose a surgical mask or a N95 mask (preferably one approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration), not any cloth mask. A Nature news item found that cloth masks are half as effective as surgical masks in a field trial.
