Unit description
This unit is an introduction to Gender Studies, an interdisciplinary field that analyses gender and how it intersects with sexuality, race, class, different abilities, and other identities. We establish foundational knowledge of and key concepts in how gender has been theorised and debated through exploring grassroots gender liberation activism including feminism, gay liberation, and the trans and intersex movements. |

Requests for Extensions
To request an extension for a period up to and including 5 working days, please email your tutor.

Late Assessment Penalty
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a mark of‚ 0 (zero) will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical issue.
This late penalty will apply to non-timed sensitive assessment (incl essays, reports, posters, portfolios, journals, recordings etc). Late submission of time sensitive tasks (such as tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, scheduled practical assessments/labs etc) will only be addressed by the unit convenor in a Special Consideration application. Special Consideration outcome may result in a new question or topic.

Active engagement in discussion is an important part of university learning. You are required to participate each week. Your mark will reflect the quality and quantity of your participation. It takes into consideration:
*your knowledge of the material (you show evidence that you have listened to the lectures and done the required reading)
*your active participation in discussions and tasks. This includes, at minimum, responding to questions posed and responding to what others have said.
*your overall contribution.

Each week there will be a 2-hour lecture on campus which is also live-streamed. The lecture is recorded and made availabile online so that you can watch it on demand. Each week there is also a 1 hour tutorial which happens via an online discussion forum.
**You are expected to engage with both lectures and tutorials/online discussion forums. Passing the assignments and the unit will be difficult if you don't.
