Unit description Unit description
This unit aims to serve as a transition to the next stage of a student's career, whether that is entry into the workforce or pursuing further study, by providing an opportunity to reflect on and consolidate the knowledge and insight developed through their degree into a significant practical or theoretical project. According to each student's interest, the focus of the project is selected from a wide range of topics in the field of Japanese Studies (language and/or content/area studies). Students will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge via their chosen media of presentation (such as interview, written work, audio/video clips, oral presentation, translating/interpreting tasks). To successfully complete this unit, it is essential that students exercise their own initiative in managing their project.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Critically reflect on and consolidate disciplinary specific knowledge in order to effectively utilise it through your future career.
  • ULO2: Independently and objectively search for and locate relevant material from a broad range of sources in order to place the project in the appropriate perspectives and contexts.
  • ULO3: Independently develop and execute an original, comprehensive and ethical project which is based on the investigation, analysis and evaluation of concepts and issues in the field of Japanese studies (language and/or content/area studies).
  • ULO4: Independently produce clear, reasoned, well-structured oral and/or audiovisual and/or written material, which are correctly referenced.
  • ULO5: Make effective use of time and resources for efficient and timely planning and completion of tasks.

General Assessment Information

Late Submissions, Extensions and Supplementary Tests

Assessment tasks are compulsory and must be submitted on time. If you anticipate unavoidable difficulty in completing an assessment task (in class and/or online), contact the convener or your tutor as soon as possible.

Late Assessment Penalty

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day an assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a mark of 0 (zero) will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical issue.

This late penalty will apply to non-timed sensitive assessment (incl essays, reports, posters, portfolios, journals, recordings etc). Late submission of time sensitive tasks (such as tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, scheduled practical assessments/labs etc) will only be addressed by the unit convenor in a Special consideration application. Special Consideration outcome may result in a new question or topic.

These are serious penalties that will substantially alter your final grade and even determine whether you pass or fail this unit. Please make every effort to submit your assignment by the due dates.

Special Consideration

If a student is prevented by serious and unavoidable disruption from completing unit requirements in accordance with their ability, they may apply for support under the Special Consideration Policy. The use of generative AI

The use of generative AI (e.g., ChatGPT and Grammarly PRO) is strictly limited to proofreading and spell check and NOT be used to produce substantial portions of text for your assessent, including but not limited to rewriting your work, adjusting expressions and translation of your work,

This task comprises a set of small tasks, including online discussions and peer-reviews of the presentations.

  • Independently and objectively search for and locate relevant material from a broad range of sources in order to place the project in the appropriate perspectives and contexts.

Project Presentation

This task comprises a video presentation of your project and an online self-assessment.

 
On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Critically reflect on and consolidate disciplinary specific knowledge in order to effectively utilise it through your future career.
  • Independently and objectively search for and locate relevant material from a broad range of sources in order to place the project in the appropriate perspectives and contexts.
  • Independently develop and execute an original, comprehensive and ethical project which is based on the investigation, analysis and evaluation of concepts and issues in the field of Japanese studies (language and/or content/area studies).
  • Independently produce clear, reasoned, well-structured oral and/or audiovisual and/or written material, which are correctly referenced.
  • Make effective use of time and resources for efficient and timely planning and completion of tasks.

Final Product

For this task, you will be required to submit the final product of your project.
