Unit description
This unit will continue to develop your physiotherapy knowledge, clinical reasoning and professional communication skills to prepare you for the broad requirements and opportunities for a physiotherapist within a complex national and global context. Specific content and skill development will be aligned with contemporary advances in physiotherapy globally. You will explore innovative ways to enhance access to, and strengthen, physiotherapy practice. You will advance your understanding to ensure that you are well placed to deliver person-centred care that considers local contexts, including the delivery of services in both high- and low-resource settings. This will enable you to operate effectively in a wide range of locations both within Australia and around the world. |

All final grades are determined by a grading committee, in accordance with the Macquarie University Assessment Policy, and are not the sole responsibility of the Unit Convenor.
Students will be awarded a final grade and a mark which must correspond to the grade descriptors specified in the Assessment Procedure.
To pass this unit, you must demonstrate sufficient evidence of achievement of the learning outcomes, meet any ungraded requirements, and achieve a final mark of 50 or better .

Grading of Assessments
You will receive a grade for each assessment within this unit. The grades awarded will reflect a holistic evaluation of the work against the criteria outlined within the corresponding assessment rubric. Numerical marks will be calculated for each assessment based on the following percentages, and rounded to the nearest full mark:
Submission of an incomplete assessment task may result in the Fail (F) grade to be awarded a numerical grade below 40%.
Late Submissions
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (OF THE TOTAL POSSIBLE MARK) will be applied each day an assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.

You will be required to work in groups to develop an educational presentation for your peers which integrates a complex case based on advanced physiotherapy practice content covered in the unit.

You will be required to present a portfolio of detailed complex cases related to the advanced physiotherapy practice content covered in this unit.

You will take part in a multidisciplinary case conference based upon a complex case related to the advanced physiotherapy practice content covered in this unit.

As a student enrolled in this unit, you will engage in a range of online and face-to-face learning activities, including online modules incorporating interactive tasks, prior to attending specialised workshops on campus, some of which include simulation activities. The teaching approach will be based on you developing a deep understanding of the principles and the ability to independently think critically and solve problems associated with complex physiotherapy practice in a diverse array of settings. Unit organisation
This is a ten credit point unit run over the session. Overall, it is anticipated that you will spend approximately 150 hours across the session on this unit. Within this session there will be approximately 28 hours of campus-based workshops and seminars, and a further 37 hours of online activities, including preparation for face-to-face sessions. You will also need to allow approximately 85 hours for assessment based work.

Minor changes of the scope and weighting of assessment tasks have occurred following feedback from previous offerings. There have also been some changes in the topics covered within this unit, including the addition of Rare Disorders, specifically covering how physiotherapists work within the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Women's Health content has been expanded to be more inclusive, now covering Pelvic Health. Spinal Cord Injury is no longer included within this unit, with Advanced Intensive Care Physiotherapy moved from PHTY8301 to this unit.
