Unit description
This is an intermediate Russian unit, which is designed for students with the knowledge of Russian that is equivalent to one year of studying the language at university level. The unit seeks to further develop students' skills in reading, writing, comprehension and speaking in Russian, as well as to expand students' knowledge of contemporary Russian culture. Students are encouraged to use their language skills to communicate in a variety of situations and contexts.

General Assessment Information
Rubrics and indicative samples are provided in iLearn as additional guidance on standards of achievement for different assessment types.
All assessment tasks are compulsory and must be submitted on time. Assignment tasks handed in early will not be marked and returned before the due date.
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a mark of ‘0’ (zero) will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical issue. This late penalty will apply to written reports and recordings only. Late submission of time sensitive tasks (such as tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, scheduled practical assessments/labs will be addressed by the unit convenor in a Special consideration application.
Written test
The purpose of the test is to check students’ knowledge of all aspects of grammar and vocabulary that they learn. The test will be conducted online.
Final test
Students have to demonstrate their knowledge and engagement with the material explained during the session. The first part of the test will be conducted online. The second part of the test will be conducted via Zoom (for external students) and in class (for internal students).
Oral test
Students have to prepare a short talk on a topic of their choice. Students will be assessed on their presentation as well as their ability to answer follow-up questions. The test will be conducted via Zoom.
Participation
Students have to demonstrate their knowledge and engagement with the material explained during the session. Students are expected to spend time on a daily review of grammar and vocabulary. Students should be familiar with and feel comfortable with each week’s content before starting a new week.
The mark is based on:
evidence of preparation for on-campus classes through demonstrating understanding and knowledge of the learning material
or evidence of preparation for classes by doing a quiz based on the material explained during the semester.

Preparation time also includes time to study, revise seminar content and prepare for the quizzes and tests.

Technology
Students are required to have regular access to a computer and the internet. Mobile devices alone are not sufficient. The preferred operating system is Windows 10.
