Unit description
This unit spans key areas of construction management including techno-commercial assessment, budgeting, floating tenders, bidding, and project quality management such as planning and execution, resource allocation plans, control and monitoring, and continuous improvement. The emphasis is on learning the latest industry trends, adopting innovative practices, and embracing digital transformation with a focus on sustainable construction practices. Students will learn to incorporate environmentally friendly practices such as optimising energy efficiency, utilising eco-friendly materials, and adopting green construction techniques to minimise waste and the overall environmental impact of construction projects. Grading and passing requirements for unit
In order to pass this unit, a student must obtain a mark of 50 or more for the unit (i.e. obtain a passing grade P/ CR/ D/ HD).
Late Assessment Submission Penalty
From 1 July 2022, Students enrolled in Session-based units with written assessments will have the following university standard late penalty applied. Please see https://students.mq.edu.au/study/assessment-exams/assessments for more information.
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of '0' will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11:55 pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern. You should contact your convenor for any anticipated issues that might prevent you from a timely submission of work.
Re-submission for any submitted and/or graded work will not be allowed.
Late submission will require justification via an approved Special Consideration process, if not late penalty procedure will be followed.

Students will choose a special topic to investigate. Assessment will be based on a presentation summarising the investigation.

A modular construction project will be designed, developed and then executed. Assessment will comprise of a group report summarizing the design, project plan and delivery of the project. Sparkplus is used to provide an individual score based on the quality of the group task. Individual scores are determined through specific questions where students in the group assess each other and also provide a self-assessment of their contribution. Written comments are also required to validate the numeric scores.

The unit is built around a project conducted in small project teams together with personal research into an area of special interest. A weekly seminar (Mondays 10-12am 14SCO-200) will include discussion of the learning materiuals for the week and review of student Special Topic progress. The Special Topics will be individually presented to the cohort in Weeks 7-12. A weekly seminar (Tuesdays 5-7pm 14SCO-200) allow students to interact with other project team members and the teaching team during planning and execution of their project. Weekly lectures and quizzes will assist students in achieving the learning outcomes and with preparation for the final exam.
There is both a seminar and a workshop during week 1. Review week 1 materials and take the week 1 quiz prior to the seminar.
