Unit description Unit description

This is a simulated work experience unit, where small groups undertake major projects on matters of environmental concern under the supervision of Macquarie staff and external industry partners.

Students are assessed individually and as groups on their ability to work well with the industry partner and successfully complete a mutually designed project.

Much of the project work is undertaken independently and outside formal class hours (the class does not meet every week but there are frequent opportunities for additional advice and supervision with the course convenor).

General Assessment Information

Requirements to Pass this Unit

To pass this unit you need to:

Achieve a total mark equal to or greater than 50% across all assessments.

Late Assessment Submission Penalty 

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark of the task) will be applied for each day a written report or presentation assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. The submission time for all uploaded assessments is 11:55 pm. A 1-hour grace period will be provided to students who experience a technical concern. For any late submission of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, please apply for Special Consideration

  • Assessment 1, 2, and 3 – YES, Standard Late Penalty applies.

Project Scoping Document

Assessment Type 1: Plan
Indicative Time on Task 2: 15 hours
Due: 14/08/2025
Weighting: 20%

 

Tests student ability to understand their project scope, to research the topic, develop a plan for project completion, and communicate their project plan to their peers.

  • Demonstrate communication skills by preparing and presenting information in a professional and confident manner 

Presentation of Preliminary Findings

Assessment Type 1: Presentation
Indicative Time on Task 2: 20 hours
Due: 16/10/2025
Weighting: 30%

 

Students will present preliminary findings to the class and to their industry partners, receiving formative feedback to shape their final report.

Final Report

Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 40 hours
Due: 06/11/2025
Weighting: 50%

 

Tests student ability to work in a group to produce a written report of the style and complexity expected of a consultant. A written report will be provided to the industry partner, and students will communicate the key findings from their reports as part of our industry showcase session at the end of session.
