Unit description
This unit aims to help students of ancient history develop their knowledge of the Latin language. It continues the systematic introduction to the grammar and vocabulary begun in previous units. The unit also aims to help students build skills in reading original Latin literary and documentary texts, and analyse the significance of Latin for the study of relevant ancient cultures. |

The test will be timed at 2 hours from starting it during the week prior to the due date. Access will open on 3 November 2025 at 9am.

This unit is delivered fully online. If you are enrolled in the scheduled class you are expected to come to class online in the timetabled slot unless you present a reason for absence.

Late Penalty
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a mark of ‘0’ (zero) will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical issue. This late penalty will apply to written reports and recordings only. Late submission of time sensitive tasks (such as tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, scheduled practical assessments/labs will be addressed by the unit convenor in a Special consideration application.

The amount of assessment for this unit has been reduced. Prose compositions have been wrapped into the three Shorter Language Tasks. There are three longer Language Tasks and a take-home exam.
