Unit description Unit description

This unit provides students with an opportunity to engage with the business community on a variety of contemporary business issues and challenges in an international business (IB) context. The unit requires students to complete two major projects prescribed by industry partners. Students will apply knowledge of international business to real-world IB projects. By the end of the unit, students gain practical knowledge and experience of how to research and analyse real-world international business issues and challenges and develop a deep understanding of how the academic knowledge covered in previous units (particularly MGMT1005, MGMT2002, MGMT3001) can be integrated to tackle real-world IB projects. Visit Employability Connect for important information on this unit including required preparation and closing dates for PACE activities.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

General Assessment Information

 

Late Assessment Submission Penalty (written assessments)

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55 pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.

For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to submit an application for Special Consideration.

Professional Practice: Global Expansion Strategy

Assessment Type 1: Report

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to address an industry partner's brief by conducting original research.

You will research an industry partner’s business and produce an individual feasibility report that evaluates new market opportunities and entry strategies and proposes strategic recommendations for firms considering global expansion.

Deliverable: Written report [max 2,000 words].

Individual assessment

 


On successful completion you will be able to:

Skills Development: Persuasive Communication

Assessment Type 1: Presentation

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to apply theories and concepts to an industry partner's brief, enhancing your communication and collaboration skills, and increasing your disciplinary knowledge.

You will work in teams to address a problem presented by an industry partner, applying theory and models in order to propose recommendations in a clear and engaging presentation.

Deliverable: Presentation with accompanying slides and speakers' notes.

Individual and group assessment

 


On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Evaluate and integrate international business and management knowledge and skills when developing solutions to practical international business and management problems.

Skills Development: Reflection on Individual Engagement

Assessment Type 1: Reflective Writing
Indicative Time on Task 2: 12 hours
Due: 25/10/2025
Weighting: 30%

 

The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on your engagement and contributions during tutorials, and to develop a structured plan for your future learning and professional development.

You will identify and analyse your contributions, evaluate your impact on group discussions and activities, and articulate your plans for continued growth, supported by evidence and artefacts from your learning journey.

  • Discipline knowledge

Deliverable: Written report [1000 max. words, excluding supporting materials in appendices].
