Unit description |
Unit description
This unit is an introduction to Gender Studies, an interdisciplinary field that analyses gender and how it intersects with sexuality, race, class, different abilities, and other identities. We establish foundational knowledge of and key concepts in how gender has been theorised and debated through exploring grassroots gender liberation activism including feminism, gay liberation, and the trans and intersex movements. |
Information about important academic dates including deadlines for withdrawing from units are available at https://www.mq.edu.au/study/calendar-of-dates
On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Please see Policies and Procedures below for information on policies that relate to assignments. In particular, you should read the Academic Integrity Policy, the Special Consideration Policy, and the Assessment Policy.
**The university takes plagiarism very seriously and there are penalties for using other people's work as your own. This includes using and/or directly quoting other people's work and/or AI (eg. ChatGPT) without quotation marks and/or acknowledgement. Please see the instructions on each of your assignments for what use of AI is and isn't acceptable and check this unit's iLearn site for resources on how to cite your sources properly and avoid plagiarism.
Requests for Extensions
To request an extension for a period up to and including 5 working days, please email your tutor.
To apply for an extension of more than 5 working days please complete a Special Consideration request and submit it online. For more information see the Special Consideration Policy above and find further details here: https://students.mq.edu.au/study/my-study-program/special-consideration.
If you are having any issues submitting your assignments please contact your tutor or the convenor. We will always try to work with you and support you to complete and submit your work. When in doubt, send the convener an email.
Late Assessment Penalty
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a mark of‚ 0 (zero) will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical issue.
This late penalty will apply to non-timed sensitive assessment (incl essays, reports, posters, portfolios, journals, recordings etc). Late submission of time sensitive tasks (such as tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, scheduled practical assessments/labs etc) will only be addressed by the unit convenor in a Special Consideration application. Special Consideration outcome may result in a new question or topic.
