Unit description
This unit addresses staffing organisations. It examines measurement and decision making in HR selection, job analysis techniques, performance prediction, attraction strategies, and selection methods. Students will be able to explain the role of HR measurement and evaluate staffing programs in a variety of organisational settings. The unit takes a technical approach and both the scholarly literature and applied practices of specialist topics are examined. |

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Late Assessment Submission Penalty (written assessments)
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.
For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to submit an application for Special Consideration

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to explain and apply key staffing and HRM concepts, and to communicate disciplinary knowledge clearly in a group setting.
You will work in a group to research the weekly topic, deliver a tutorial-opening presentation, and respond to audience questions to demonstrate your understanding.

Deliverable: Presentation (up to 20 min).

Indicative Time on Task 2: 10 hours
Due: Week-8; September 21, 2025
Weighting: 30%
The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on your engagement and contributions during tutorials.
You will identify and analyse individual tutorial contributions, and evaluate your impact on group discussions and activities. You will support this with evidence and artefacts from your learning journey.
Skills in focus:
Deliverable: Written report [max. 1,000 words], excluding supporting materials and appendices.

Due: Week-12; November 02, 2025
Weighting: 40%
The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to design a tailored recruitment and selection plan for a specialised role, applying HRM concepts and evidence-based practices.
You will choose one of three high-value roles, create a fictitious organisation, and develop a comprehensive recruitment and selection report including job analysis, selection criteria, recruitment strategy, and decision-making processes.
Skills in focus:
Deliverable: Written individual report [max. 2,000 words] excluding relevant appendices.
