Unit description
This unit introduces students to the key concepts of business operations from a firm perspective while internationalising. Major issues considered include modes of international expansion; the management of international strategic cooperation; an emphasis on small to medium size businesses and how they compete on a global level; and the development of new international organisation forms and their implications for management in various functional and operational areas. Structure and strategy are explored from the perspective of their roles as foundations of the organisation, with an emphasis on how all types of businesses have grappled with the operational and organisational challenges of International Business. Skills in problem solving and teamwork are developed. |

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Late Assessment Submission Penalty (written assessments)
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.
For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to submit an application for Special Consideration.

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to apply international business theories and concepts, enhancing your communication skills and increasing your disciplinary knowledge.
You will analyse an allocated organization and propose a market opportunity assessment in a clear and engaging presentation.

Deliverable: Video presentation [max 5min.] with accompanying slides and speakers' notes.

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to assess geopolitical challenges & trade policy changes by applying international business concepts and models.
You will work in teams to investigate a firm's existing internationalization strategies, and evaluate and suggest a new potential internationalisation entry strategy for the allocated firm.

Deliverable: Written report [max 3,000 words].

The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on your engagement with the unit material, the tutorials, and your performance as a team member during the session.
You will identify and reflect on your individual contributions during tutorials, evaluate your role as a team member, and consider your impact on group discussions and activities. You will also reflect on key learning experiences from the unit, such as guest lectures or the use of digital tools, where applicable. You will support this with evidence and artefacts from your learning journey.
Skills in focus:
Deliverable: Written report [1,500 max. words, excluding supporting materials in appendices].
