Unit description Unit description

Organisational Behaviour (OB) focuses on contemporary workplace issues relating to human behaviour as well as strategic and sustainable business decision making. The issues addressed in this unit draw on perspectives from psychology, anthropology, philosophy and sociology. Students critically examine the dynamics of how and why employees and managers behave the way they do and the subsequent impact on attitudes, behaviours and performance in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Identify and describe theories and frameworks that explore organisational behaviour.
  • ULO2: Examine and apply perspectives of theories and frameworks in exploring organisational problems and phenomena.
  • ULO3: Critically analyse and integrate organisational behaviour theories and frameworks to solve problems.

General Assessment Information

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.  

For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to submit an application for Special Consideration.

Skills Development: Understanding Behaviour at Work

Assessment Type 1: Case study/analysis
Indicative Time on Task 2: 20 hours

Weighting: 30%

 

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to apply Organisational Behaviour (OB) theories and frameworks to analyse workplace dynamics and propose evidence-based recommendations.

You will analyse a short case study by applying relevant OB theories to explain attitudes, behaviours, and decisions, and recommend strategies to address the challenges presented.

Skills in focus:

Discipline knowledge; Critical thinking & problem solving.

Deliverable: Written essay (max 1,000 words).

Individual assessment

 


On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Examine and apply perspectives of theories and frameworks in exploring organisational problems and phenomena.
  • Critically analyse and integrate organisational behaviour theories and frameworks to solve problems.

Skills Development: Persuasive Group Presentation

Assessment Type 1: Presentation
Indicative Time on Task 2: 15 hours
Due: Week 4 Onwards
Weighting: 30%

 

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently in a team setting, using structured content and engaging delivery techniques to influence and inform an audience.

You will work in a team to research and deliver a presentation that applies relevant theories, frameworks, or concepts to a real-world organisational issue, demonstrating effective communication, content organisation, audience engagement, and creativity.

Skills in focus:

Collaboration; Communication; Discipline knowledge.

Deliverable: Group presentation.

Group assessment

 


On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Identify and describe theories and frameworks that explore organisational behaviour.
  • Examine and apply perspectives of theories and frameworks in exploring organisational problems and phenomena.

Skills Development: Reflection on Learning

Assessment Type 1: Reflective Writing
Indicative Time on Task 2: 25 hours
Due: 03/11/2025
Weighting: 40%

 

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to reflect critically on your learning by applying Organisational Behaviour theories to personal or professional experiences in order to deepen self-awareness and support future professional development.

You will write an individual reflection that applies selected OB theories or frameworks to your experiences, drawing on scholarly research and a structured model of reflection to evaluate how these insights shape your understanding and future practice.

Skills in focus:

Discipline knowledge; Work readiness

Deliverable: Written report (2,000 words max).
