Unit description
International business includes all business activities that involve organisations from two or more countries. Although international business has many similarities with domestic business, there are significant differences which this unit examines. At an international level, managers must accommodate a highly complex environment. Key variables in this environment include: different currencies; different government policies concerning trade; subsidies and controls on foreign investment; as well as the variables that exist in any domestic environment such as competition, costs and customer characteristics. Topics examined in the unit include: forms of international business; the political and cultural context of international business; theories of international trade and investment; regional economic integration; and an introduction to multilateral institutions such as the IMF, the World Bank group and the World Trade Organisation. |

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:
Late Assessment Submission Penalty (written assessments)
Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.
For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to submit an application for Special Consideration.

The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to apply theories and concepts within an ethical context, enhancing your communication and collaboration skills, and increasing your disciplinary knowledge.
You will address ethical issues related to internationalisation, applying theory and models in order to propose recommendations in a clear and engaging presentation.

Deliverable: 3-4min presentation with accompanying slides.
Individual assessment
Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 17.5 hours
Due: 12/09/2025
Weighting: 30%
The purpose of this assessment is to develop your ability to assess market implications & internationalisation considerations by applying international business concepts and models.
You will work in teams to investigate existing and potential external forces in different economic markets and evaluate and suggest internationalisation decisions for the allocated firm.
Skills in focus:
Discipline knowledge; Critical thinking and problem solving; Communication; Collaboration.
Deliverable: Written report (4,000 words max.).
Group assessment
Assessment Type 1: Portfolio
Indicative Time on Task 2: 15 hours
Due: 07/11/2025
Weighting: 30%
The purpose of this assessment is for you to critically reflect on your engagement and contributions during tutorials.
You will identify and analyse individual tutorial contributions, and evaluate your impact on group discussions and activities. You will support this with evidence and artefacts from your learning journey.
Skills in focus:
Communication; Work readiness.
Deliverable: Written report [max. 1,000 words], excluding supporting materials and appendices.
