Unit description Unit description

This unit focuses on infrastructure, property and resource investment and financing, including tools and techniques which can be applied to successful projects and investments. A key focus will be on practical application to real-world projects.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Explain and evaluate the infrastructure, resource and property industry structure and value chain together with relevant financing tools and techniques.
  • ULO2: Critically assess projects in this industry using these techniques to find solutions which address risk and return requirements.
  • ULO3: Design an investment proposal for a professional practice project which uses appropriate analytical techniques and delivers practical solution(s) in response to the needs of relevant stakeholders.

General Assessment Information

Late Assessment Submission Penalty (written assessments) 

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark) will be applied each day a written assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. Submission time for all written assessments is set at 11.55pm. A 1-hour grace period is provided to students who experience a technical concern.  

For any late submissions of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, students need to apply for Special Consideration.

Professional Practice: Property Investment Report

Assessment Type 1: Report
Indicative Time on Task 2: 20 hours
Due: 15/10/2025
Weighting: 20%

 

The purpose of this assessment is for you to apply your knowledge from the property component of this unit and apply analytical and research skills to a real-world property investment decision. You are to give insights into the world of commercial propety in the form of a report. The focus could be on Australia or other international property markets

Skills in focus: - Critical thinking - Problem Solving - Discipline Knowledge

Deliverable: Report (Max 2500 words + max 5 pages of appendices) Individual assessment

 


On successful completion you will be able to:
  • Explain and evaluate the infrastructure, resource and property industry structure and value chain together with relevant financing tools and techniques.
  • Critically assess projects in this industry using these techniques to find solutions which address risk and return requirements.
  • Design an investment proposal for a professional practice project which uses appropriate analytical techniques and delivers practical solution(s) in response to the needs of relevant stakeholders.

Skills Development: Case analysis

Assessment Type 1: Case study/analysis
Indicative Time on Task 2: 35 hours
Due: 23/11/2025
Weighting: 40%

 

The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate expertise by applying your knowledge to one case study in infrastructure and the other underpinning resources. The combined report will consist of numerical and written components for each of the case study when appropriate. It is expected to be written in way that is presentable to an investment committee. That means it should be professionally presented. Analysis of scenarios and presentation of analysis and conclusions will be made available on the unit iLearn page.

Skills in focus: - Critical thinking - Problem Solving - Discipline Knowledge

Deliverable: Report (Max 2000 words for each case study, i.e. in total 4000 words + max 5 pages of appendices for each case study) Individual assessment

The purpose of this assessment is for you to demonstrate the expertise you have gained in this unit.

You will participate in a 2-hour exam held during the University Examination period. Important information about the exam will be made available on the unit iLearn page. You should also review the MQ Exams website for general tips: https://students.mq.edu.au/study/assessment-exams/exams

Deliverable: Formal exam (2hrs). The Exam will cover Property, Resources, and Infrastructure in equal proportions Individual assessment
