With the advancement of Internet of Things (IoT), microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), smart sensors and actuators, wireless mechatronic devices, services, and systems are experiencing fast growth in a variety of application fields, such as manufacturing, transportation, and healthcare. This unit deals on the theory and practice of designing wireless mechatronic systems using smart actuators, sensors, Interfacing, embedded controller, wireless protocols with adaptive intelligence.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Implement wireless mechatronics systems including smart sensors, actuators and wireless communicating devices in the context of wireless mechatronics
  • ULO2: Demonstrate a good understanding of data storage, security and cloud computing in the context of wireless mechatronics
  • ULO3: Design and implement software for wireless mechatronics systems
  • ULO4: Design and implement systems for remote monitoring and control

General Assessment Information

Release: Marks of Assignment 1 will be released no later than week 5.

Grading and passing requirement for unit:

 In order to pass this unit a student must obtain a mark of 50 or more for the unit.

Late Assessment Submission Penalty:

On line quizzes, in-class activities or  schedule tests and exam must be undertaken at the time indicated in the unit guide. Should either of these assessments be missed due to illness or misadventure, students should apply for Special Consideration.

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark of the task) will be applied for each day a written report or presentation assessment is not submitted, up until the 7th day (including weekends). After the 7th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. The submission time for all uploaded assessments is 11:55 pm. A 1-hour grace period will be provided to students who experience technical concerns. For any late submission of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, please apply for Special Consideration. For example, if the assignment is worth 8 marks (of the entire unit) and your submission is late by 19 hours (or 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds), 0.4 marks (5% of 8 marks) will be deducted. If your submission is late by 24 hours (or 47 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds), 0.8 marks (10% of 8 marks) will be deducted, and so on.

Resubmissions of work are not allowed.

Changes from Previous Offering

The time duration and method of delivery will be different for this year.

The pracs activities have been reduced to 2 hours from 4 hours in 2025. The hands-on pracs activities will be before the lecture so that the student can clarify any doubts and background theory during the lecture by asking questions to the UC.

The UC will discuss related theories for the project execution during the lecture, some of which are to be noted in the logbook.

The total time for the pracs and lecture activities is 4 hours compared to 6 hours for the previous years.
