In this capstone unit, you will apply your knowledge of engineering management to the planning, design, and delivery of projects in a practical context. You will explore engineering management processes across the full project lifecycle, from initiation through to completion, with consideration of real‑world constraints and organisational contexts.

You will undertake the design of medium to large‑scale engineering projects based on realistic scenarios, drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives where appropriate. Through applied project work, you will develop the ability to integrate advanced engineering management principles into practice, preparing you for professional roles across a range of engineering contexts.

 

Learning in this unit enhances student understanding of global challenges identified by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

Requirements to pass the unit

To pass this unit you need to achieve a total mark equal to or greater than 50% across all assessments.

Hurdle Assessments

There is no hurdle assessment in this unit.

Late Assessment Submission

Late assessments are not accepted in this unit unless a Special Consideration has been submitted and approved.

Special Consideration

 The Special Consideration Policy aims to support students who have been impacted by short-term circumstances or events that are serious, unavoidable and significantly disruptive, and which may affect their performance in assessment. If you experience circumstances or events that affect your ability to complete the assessments in this unit on time, please inform the convenor and submit a Special Consideration request through http://connect.mq.edu.au/.

Short Extension

For some assessment types, students are allowed to request an extra 3 calendar days to complete eligible assessments. No reason or evidence is required. In this unit, short extensions are not accepted.

In this assessment, you will deliver an oral presentation outlining the key outcomes of your engineering management project. This assessment develops skills in professional communication, synthesis of project work, and the presentation of engineering solutions to relevant audiences.

  • Apply acquired analytical and theoretical knowledge to the design and implementation of engineering projects
  • Identify the responsibilities and deliverables of engineering managers from the project's initiation to successful completion.
