Requirements to Pass this Unit: Achieve a total mark equal to or greater than 50%.

It is an expectation that students will engage with all lectures and parts of the unit and will attempt all assessments.

Detailed information about each of the assessments, including rubrics and submission instructions will be available in the Assessment block in iLearn. Please make sure you read the assessment information carefully. Assessment Q&A forums for each assessment will be available on the unit iLearn. If you have an assessment question please first check the assessment information and the relevant assessment Q&A forum, to see if your question has already been answered. If not, please post your question on the assessment forum where it will be answered within 1-2 days (weekdays). Please do not email your tutor unless you have tried all the above sources and cannot find an answer to your question.

Release dates:

Assessment 1 (Essay): To be released no later than 31 August

Assessment 2 (Blog Portfolio): To be released no later than 27 July

Assessment 3 (Examination): The exam is closed book exam. Exam information and rubric will be released no later than October 5

General Submission Procedure 

Written assessments must be submitted via TurnItIn at the correct link provided on the Unit iLearn site. You will not be able to view your TurnItIn match similarity report for your assessment before you submit it. You must ensure that you use the correct link for your assessment, and that you upload the correct final version of your assessment.  

Late Assessment Submission Penalty

Unless a Special Consideration request has been submitted and approved, a 5% penalty (of the total possible mark of the task) will be applied for each day a written report or presentation assessment is not submitted, up until the 7^th day (including weekends). After the 7^th day, a grade of ‘0’ will be awarded even if the assessment is submitted. The submission time for all uploaded assessments is 11:55 pm. A 1-hour grace period will be provided to students who experience technical concerns. For any late submission of time-sensitive tasks, such as scheduled tests/exams, performance assessments/presentations, and/or scheduled practical assessments/labs, please apply for Special Consideration. For example, if the assignment is worth 8 marks (of the entire unit) and your submission is late by 19 hours (or 23 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds), 0.4 marks (5% of 8 marks) will be deducted. If your submission is late by 24 hours (or 47 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds), 0.8 marks (10% of 8 marks) will be deducted, and so on.

Assessment 3 (Exam) - NO, unless Special Consideration/Supplementary Exam is granted 

Special Consideration

The Special Consideration Policy aims to support students who have been impacted by short-term circumstances or events that are serious, unavoidable and significantly disruptive, and which may affect their performance in assessment. If you experience circumstances or events that affect your ability to complete the assessments in this unit on time, please inform the convenor and submit a Special Consideration request through http://connect.mq.edu.au/.

Short Extensions:

For some assessment types, students are allowed to request an extra 3 calendar days to complete eligible assessments. No reason or evidence is required. In this unit, short extensions apply to Assessment 1 (Essay) and Assessement 2 (Blog Portfolio).

Academic honesty is taken very seriously, and a range of methods, including but not restricted to the use of Turnitin, are used to detect plagiarism. Misrepresenting someone else's work as your own may be grounds for referral to the Faculty Disciplinary Committee. GenAI/ChatGPT

In this unit, it is expected that all work you submit demonstrates your own understanding, analysis, research, reflection, critical thinking, and writing. You will be marked on the basis of your demonstrated understanding of and engagement with the unit content and activities. This applies to all assessments, including online forums/blogs.

Assessment 1 (Essay) and Assessmnt 2 (Blog Portfolio) are 'AI Open' assessments. This means that you are permitted to use AI in the preparation of your work. But in all cases, your submitted assessment must ultimately be authored by you and must reflect your own understanding, so that you can explain and expand on all of the content  and sources used in your submitted work. This is what it means to be the author of your work, and to be able to demonstrate your own personal understanding of everything you have written. You can use AI to help you to research, structure/organise, and express your ideas in your essay or blog entries, but you are not to submit entire AI outputs as your assessment.  If your teachers have concerns about whether a submission is genuinely your own work, you may be required to attend an interview with the Unit Convenor or other academic staff to discuss your work and demonstrate your personal understanding and attainment of unit and task learning outcomes.   

Assessment 3 (Exam) is an 'Observed' assessment. Use of AI is not permitted.

Delivery and Resources

Week 1 classes:

Lectures and SGTAs will commence in Week 1.

Delivery:

Lectures in this unit will be in-person (on-campus) with recordings available online via Echo360 and the unit iLearn site. SGTAs will be on campus.

Methods of Communication:

We will communicate with you via your university email and through announcements on iLearn. Queries to convenors can either be placed on the relevant iLearn discussion board or sent to the unit convenor via the contact email on iLearn.

READING:

All required readings are available in Leganto on the unit iLearn site. Supplementary reading is required for Essays. Further suggestions for Supplementary Reading may be provided in lectures and on iLearn.
