Unit description Unit description

This unit is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required for effective problem solving and critical analysis in project management. It provides an analysis of – (i) the scoping and assessment of project feasibility; (ii) project planning and procurement; (iii) building a project team; (iv) project resource management; (v) managing project risks; and (vi) project communications and marketing. Students will gain an understanding of the nature and scope of leadership and technical capabilities needed for effective project management.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ULO1: Critically evaluate the effectiveness of project management techniques and how these are applied in project teams for business problem solving. .
  • ULO2: Analyse the effectiveness of progress monitoring techniques used to successfully manage project delivery.
  • ULO3: Demonstrate the application of business research skills to contemporary business issues both as an individual and as a member of a team.  

General Assessment Information

Late Submission Penalties

If you submit your assessment late, 5% of the total possible marks will be deducted for each day (including weekends), up to 7 days. Submissions more than 7 days late will receive a mark of 0.

Example 1 (out of 100):

If you score 85/100 but submit 20 hours late, you will lose 5 marks and receive 80/100.

Example 2 (out of 30):

If you score 27/30 but submit 20 hours late, you will lose 1.5 marks and receive 25.5/30.

Extensions

Automatic short extension: Some assessments are eligible for automatic short extension. You can only apply for an automatic short extension before the due date.

You will work in a group to research and analyse a completed business project (for example, a government construction or infrastructure project). Your report will identify key planning and execution issues, their causes, and potential solutions in areas such as stakeholder management, scope, timelines, financing, and project control. You will also reflect on your team’s effectiveness in managing this group project as a mini case study in project management.
