Unit description
Leading others begins with building effective relationships. This unit provides students with the opportunity to develop skills to manage teams and build strong relationships with others. Through a series of workshops, students will learn practical skills to connect with people more successfully. The use of influence and persuasion will be compared and students will learn skills to work more collaboratively with different types of people. The unit aims to expand students’ skills and knowledge to improve their effectiveness as leaders. Outcomes from this unit will help students understand relationships better and to develop leadership behaviour capabilities.
This unit employs block teaching.

Students will select a leading organisation and then research the leaders within that organisation.
The presentation will focus on the organisation as a leader and individuals within the organisation. (20 minutes in total) and all students presenting.
Students will then submit a 1500 word Group Report, analysing the leadership and the chosen organisation's success
This assessment will be Peer assessed.

Due to the nature of the block teaching mode, the schedule will be flexible throughout the block.
As a guide:
Lectures – The role of lectures is to build on the relevant core readings to set out main ideas, theories and conceptual frameworks. Lectures are assumed to last 2 hours.
Tutorials – The tutorials provide an interactive environment to allow the development of knowledge and practice of skills through exercises and scenarios. Tutorials are assumed to last 1 hour.
